you made a typo, crystalis was on the NES not SNES.

and yeah there's also the gbc version (it changes the order of some things, as well as the plot/cutscenes/music)

But I should also point out that it's also in the SNK 40th anniversary collection, so you can also play it on the PS4, Xbone, Switch, and PC. (and the 40th anniversary collection is 50% off on steam as part of the lunar sale https://store.steampowered.com/app/865940/SNK_40th_ANNIVERSARY_COLLECTION/ )

and it's also free on Switch's NSO NES application.

yay crawling through mediocre gameplay and beating the boss only to get thrown into a button mashing race minigame that doesn't even have the decency of telling you which buttons to mash and you get an instant game over and have to restart the entire level over if you lose.

I thought it was pretty straightforward, particularly considering that you are locked into the main route on the first playthrough and can't start any alternate routes or get the bad ending until after you get the first ending.

the map trigger sequences and questions are all pretty straightforward if you've been paying attention (except for the one on Hana's route) and can't get a bad ending for messing them up until you actually finish the game once (except for the one on Hana's route).

after that you just have to pick the positive delusions for the girl whose route you want to do and negative for all the other ones which is pretty logical. the exception being Uki's route, since I think she only appears in like 1 positive delusion and a couple negative ones for other characters so you might have to be a bit more careful with delusion triggers with other characters. and you access the true ending from the menu after getting all the other ones.

I didn't have any problem playing blind, other than Uki's route and finding some of the bad endings for CG gallery completion. And the map trigger on Hana's route.

(also the other routes branch off the main story after different chapters instead of at the end, so that's probably where your confusion comes from if you missed the part that you're locked into an ending on your first playthrough.)

I was going to say that I thought that Chaos Child had 12 chapters, but I looked it up and it's 11 chapters (not counting the alternate route chapters and the true ending).

haven't watched the anime, but going off of the episode titles it sounds like it adapts roughly a chapter an episode (plus probably some Nono route related scenes for context) and the true ending.

also since I assume that ltm is playing the ps4 version due to an earlier remark about playing vns on console, I feel I need to point out that in the ps4/vita version the map trigger segment in Hana's route is a pain since pqube didn't bother to translate anything on the map or try to make it more accessible to a western audience who wouldn't be familiar with the area and can't tell you guessed wrong until after a fairly significant amount of text later you get a bad ending. So just use a guide for that part.

I reorganized it somewhat, although it's partially sorted with games in the same series or similar within the same genre or what have you grouped together to look neat rather than being completely in order of preference although it doesn't really matter too much for practical purposes (other than most of what's below about 150 or so place is stuff that I already own on other platforms or is lower priority).

Beat Super Metroid

3:22, 62% completion.

could have done better, but I was still playing pretty casually and it's not like I was ever able to get the good ending or 100% completion when I was younger (I probably only bothered to get somewhere in the 85-90% range due to not wanting to bother with getting certain pickups, and I hate to think about my actual time).

boy I sure had an embarrassing time with tourian though. took me about as much effort to beat Mother Brain and escape as it did to beat Ridley but I was being kind of sloppy there at the end I guess. overall had at least 4-5 deaths to ridley, 4-5 deaths trying to beat the game, 1 to the golden torizo, and 1 trying to go through heat rooms in norfair without the varia suit.

well.

Took four or five tries to beat Ridley, since I only had 5 energy tanks going into the fight. >_> funny how that's probably less effort to beat Ridley than it took me back in the day (although one time I still managed to """"beat"""" the first ridley fight when I was younger despite being terrible at video games <_<)

currently saved at the start of Tourian with 3:10 on the timer, so I was pretty much right that getting turned around a bit in Maridia killed my chance of getting the best ending this run.

would have went ahead and finished it, but it was like 2 in the morning at the time and I died on mother brain because I didn't know that it was actually possible for her hyper beam attacks to kill you if you don't have enough energy tanks left, >_>

Played through most of super metroid sunday. Called it a day after getting the Space Jump. Save file is 2:29, I guess not bad for playing for the first time in I dunno probably a decade or so and not really going out of my way to get items. Though I lost a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out how to get to Draygon since I went past the grapple block area, got the missle/super missle in that one dead end, then left back since I didn't remember where the passage was and left back to the room with the grapple blocks and I had to do that again. So between that and getting turned around a bit looking for the speed booster and crocmire in norfair earlier I probably won't be able to get the best ending, but it doesn't seem too out of reach for me.

It really strikes me as how horrible I was at games when I was younger. Like I mean I was so bad at games I couldn't really manage to do any sort of command input that requires double tapping like running. (so, so bad at games). now imagine how I must have felt the first time I fell in the wall jump pit. now, I'm not great at it but I can actually wall jump a little bit successfully. also, despite not gathering many energy tanks or any reserve tanks I haven't had too much trouble with the bosses despite struggling a lot with most of them back when I first played this. like I got to phantoon not at full health or ammo and still won first try (though it was a bit close) ha ha back when I was younger I thought you had to jump over phantoon's waves of fireballs and didn't realize you could shoot them until a later playthrough. Ridley's probably going to be fun though without going out of my way to get more energy tanks.

probably finish it when I get back to playing it (since I just started playing Scarlet Grace yesterday).

meh, the snes version isn't very good gameplay wise, it just gets a lot of attention since it has good graphics and such and wasn't released in the us but was big enough to get featured in game magazines anyway.

this version (at least the psp one anyway) at least it's basically remade using the so2 engine so it's not as bad and would probably mostly appeal more to fans of that game although it's substantially easier and fairly short.

it's been an eternity since I played either ffa or sword of mana, but the gist of the major points are:

*you can pick between the hero and heroine to play, mostly the same but there's some minor plot/gameplay differences like a different dungeon/boss or two
*graphics/art style overhauled to look like later mana games
*more dialog/cutscenes
*NPC/temporary characters are actual party members, (although it means that you more or less have to babysit them more than they actually help you, since in ffa they couldn't get hurt by enemies but still contributed a little to battle)
*no more having to buy/stock generic keys/pickaxes
*other items/magic are more similar to later mana games
*they generally tried to implement mechanics more similar to later mana games, although with mixed results.

I forget a lot of the actual details though.

comparison:
original -

Adventures -

Sword -

Well, you can do whatever you want to do. I think it's come up before and I thought the agreement was that there's a bit of individual discression involved when it comes to remakes/ports and if you would consider them the same game then you could go ahead and count it?

though it would probably be a bit easier to get a hold of FFA (in the mana collection) or AoM (digitally) than get a copy of sword of mana since it hasn't been rereleased afaik.

eh. I would personally consider Sword of Mana to be a different game than Seiken Densetsu 1/ffa, like how the upcoming Trials of Mana is going to be different than Seiken Densetsu 3, or Romancing SaGa for the PS2 is different than the original. And not like the Romancing SaGa 2/3 ports, or SD1/FFA and Adventures of Mana, or Secret of Mana and the PS4/vita version.

(well, I haven't played adventures of mana or the ps4 secret of mana. but from what I hear they're more mechanically similar than Sword of Mana and the original. I'd be willing to play AoM though if it wins.)

So I finished Ciconia episode 1 last night.

tldr version while I enjoyed it overall I don't necessarily think it made a good introduction when compared to Higurashi or Umineko episode 1. It also might not appeal to Higurashi or Umineko fans, since it's completely different. There isn't any mystery or whodunnit element to Ciconia and instead it's literally Ryukisi trying to write Evangelion.

the only one that's in english is the fifth one.

well at least until the new one comes out I guess but it's going to be pretty different.

basically you have some goofy early 20th century alternate history with the main characters working at a musical theater which is a front for their actual job of piloting steampunk mecha to fight demons.

the game is mostly vn, with a strategy battle with simple stats that are based on your responses in the vn portions with the "ace" being the girl with the highest affection at the time (usually the one the chapter focuses on, until you get to the last chapters and can pick a final girl to get an ending with).

while the first four games have the same mc and a fair amount of continuity (there was a remake that even let you carry over the save data for all four games) the fifth is standalone with a new mc which is why it was localized.

though tbh, the vn portions are better than the srpg portions, and I'd say that if you want a vn + srpg you'd probably be better off with some other options like underwater ray romano.

if you don't already have it but want to play it, the switch version of slay the spire is on sale now.

though not a particularly steep discount as it's still 19.99

thoughts on shiren?

it's great if you like roguelikes. It has a lot of content and challenge dungeons (including some weirder ones like a puzzle one and a minesweeper dungeon). Though unlocking some things or trying to fill out the various books can be a bit tedious (like trying to collect the dragon balls multiple times to get all the wishes) and some people might not like the day/night cycle since night gameplay is radically different from traditional mystery dungeon gameplay (since you can't see in the FoW without a torch, and enemies are stronger/more aggressive but blind so you need to sneak around and avoid combat more. and instead of weapons since you're probably carrying a torch the whole time you get 8 utility skill slots that recharge every floor)

oh and the people on the shiren 5 board are trying to redo the series wiki, compiling things like lists and strategies from experience and japanese fan sources:
